PRESIDENT'S ANNUAL REPORT 2005/2006

The 84th AGM of the Auckland Philatelic Society sees the Society remain in good health overall. The indicators of this good health are as follows.

Meetings over the past year have been well attended and the lively buzz in the room has always made me hesitate before hitting the bell to call the meeting to order.

The circuits continue to be ably managed by Phil and Barry. The busy state of the circuits means that they are obviously fulfilling a need for members. Phil.s Circuit Manager report follows, but I know that the circuits have also contributed a good financial return to the society.

The red dot sales continue their trend of good results under the capable control of Nic Hendy.

The newsletter remains both interesting and informative under the editorship of Brian Marshall. Articles combine with Society news and other philatelic titbits to keep members up to date, particularly for those who are not regular meeting attendees.

One less positive note has been difficulty of labouring for the past year without a person fulfilling the role of Society Secretary. Out of necessity, Martin Sherwin has capably acted as Society Treasurer.

The role of Secretary is an important one and I record my thanks to Nic Hendy for the times he has stepped in to assist as a 'de-facto' Secretary. It is fair to say that the lack of a Secretary has been a problem for the past year, one that looks to be solved with the election of officers to follow shortly.

Other than the Secretary problem, the Committee has worked hard to keep matters on an even keel. I record here my thanks to each of the committee members over the past year.

I regret that my own family and particularly work commitments mean that I have found that I do not have sufficient time available to remain as President and I am therefore stepping down. I wish my successor the best of luck.

It is with pleasure that I present this report. The Circuits have been disrupted this last financial year with the loss of a number of books, the outcome while disappointing has made me look at the security of the Circuits.

In conclusion, I would like to thank everyone who has helped during this last financial year, especially Barry Gray, without his help, I would be completely lost. This being my first full year .on the job. my thanks to all the Circuit participants, for what appears to be a record year. The suppliers of the stamps for their patience and presentation, and to the buyers my gratitude for your willingness to buy what is presented to you.

I feel that we can continue to grow the Circuits and would encourage all members to participate and if any members have any suggestions for improvement, please let me know.

The club has sold some wonderful items over the last year with plenty of bargains for the buyers and vendors who are very happy with the prices realised. There has been material from three large estates, the material from these have been sold at no reserve, as the vendors does not want any of the material returned.

The auction list is generated electronically and is emailed to anyone interested. If you have not received one within a week of the auction, contact Nick Hendy. Bids from this source have topped nearly $2,000 in total with sales of $1,000.

This has been a very encouraging year with not only wonderful results, but also wonderful material to sell. I have enjoyed being one of a team of Society members who have put the Auckland Philatelic Society Red Dot Sales firmly on the Auckland Philatelic calendar as a must event. Special thanks must go to Len Jury for giving up his weekends and being our auctioneer.
